As part of our course, you will learn to make an espresso recipe from scratch, understand how to build a balanced shot, and identify roast levels and taste profiles so you can confidently adjust the recipe.  Through guided coffee tasting sessions, you will explore different coffee varieties, compare single-origin coffees and blends, and evaluate the flavor characteristics of washed, natural, honey, and experimental processing methods.

You will receive hands-on training with espresso machines, grinders, and specialty brewing equipment, including Aeropress, V60, and French press. UTS Barista Course Details: Course Overview

Explore the process of coffee production from farm to cup, from its growth to processing to trade worldwide. In Nepal, the zones where coffee is grown are in the regions of Gulmi, Palpa and Kavre.

During coffee tasting sessions and cupping, you will learn how to taste, smell and identify flavors and aromas in coffee, that include acidity, sweetness, body, balance and aftertaste. This is the ability that will help you distinguish a beginner from a professional.

You will learn how to work with commercial espresso machines and grinders, how to calibrate your grinder recipe, how to pull an espresso shot and how to maintain the equipment. You will also find out how to operate and maintain a proper coffee station so that the coffee could flow smoothly during peak periods, keep the working areas clean and produce high-quality coffee under pressure.

You will find out how the grind size, dose, yield, temperature and extraction period can affect the espresso taste, and how the state of milk fat, temperature and texture can affect the end result of espresso. This means cleaning the steamer and pouring milk to the correct temperature and consistency, as well as creating simple latte art such as a heart and rosette – something which customers can spot and employers value.

You will learn how to create a cafe menu, how to price items, what sells and how to balance offerings of drinks, which would be useful in creating a menu for your own cafe. You’ll also get to know how to clean your espresso machine and other cafe equipment properly and the significance of hygiene and food safety, which employers take seriously.

You’ll get a primer on the modern culture of the coffee business: third wave coffee, a movement that views coffee as an artisanal product where quality and origin and processing takes precedence when it comes to the bean, and fourth wave coffee, which embraces data, technology, and sustainability.

The course concludes with a hands-on and a written exam that will assess your practical skills and knowledge of the concepts that you have learnt throughout the course. A certificate from the CTEVT will be issued to you when you pass.
